Defending Against The 4 Levels Of Stress; Environmental, Physical, Nutritional & Emotional!

We all know what the typical day to day stresses consist of now a days. Work schedule's, kids schedule's, bills and unfortunately more and more self induced stress over the unneeded. Here are 4 of the main daily stresses that are actually the focal points to most of our dysfunction. These are the stresses that we could control the most and unfortunately usually do nothing about

Environmental:
We have all heard the saying that we are the company that we keep. Well that is just as true as saying we are only as healthy as our environment.  So what we need to think about are the environments that we live in daily like our homes, places of work and social circles in which we chose, are these as healthy as they need to be. It should start with our home environment first. Is this a clean place for good thoughts and wellness or is this a mess of stuff that keeps us frustrated and feeling clustered. Like Fung Shui teaches we have to find balance and harmony where we live so we can be at our highest level of being. So let us recognize the environments in which we live and make sure they are the true sanctuaries needed for our temples. Next is where we spend probably most of our time is work. Is our work environment conducive to us being healthier more manageable people or is it a place of aggravation and self indulgence rather than productivity and prosperity. We don't always have the ability to change our livelihoods but we can certainly make them better environments for us to conduct day to day business. Finally is our Social Circles or Clicks as we know them. These tend to be the most disruptive if we allow them, which most of us do. It is not easy to cut off certain people that have been lifelong friends or acquaintances, but we have all been faced with certain people that will drain you if you let them. Not only are we doing ourselves a favor by keeping better company but we will also be doing a favor to those who cannot choose better for themselves. Sometimes it is truly good to be selfish for good reasons not foolish reasons.

Physical:
In this day you can literally find a gym open 24 hours on almost every street corner but obesity and disease is ever growing. So I ask you are you as physically active as you need to be daily or does most of your stress actually come from the lack of exercise. Our bodies need a certain amount of daily exercise for good mental and physical wellness. Do we wake up and stretch and greet the day with good physical activities such as yoga, running or working out or do we just roll out of bed and wind up on the coach. This is a slump that most of us fall into and don't know how to break the cycle. Now onto our places of work. Are we physically active at work or does the day consist of punching numbers or staring at wall post's and chatting with neighbors on farmville. No matter if we have a desk job or are literally pumping steel as an iron worker we all need some physical activity outside of work. Next is everyone's favorite " Happy Hour". Instead of unwinding after work with a different scene we usually wind up at the nearest watering hole. We need to change up the normal day to day interactions and redirect our frustrations at the gym not our peers. Sometimes these cause the most stress in our lives and we don't even realize it.

Nutritional:
This is probably the most important and the one stress that we really do have 100% control over. We have more food choices than ever at our disposal and this is the main reason why most of us choose comfort over nutrition. So how do you choose your foods in your environments daily. Do you go for those easy to digest and highly nutritious foods organic smoothies, juices, fruits, whole grain breads, cereals or the ever so popular grease with a side of grease. This is how the body finds its daily nutrients needed by the brain to compute the days events for the body to react accordingly. No wonder why most of us feel like hitting the snooze button every morning or just literally going back to bed by noon. We need to start the day with the most empowering food so that we can feel more functional in our environments while being physically active. Eating 4-5 smaller but more nutritious meals daily allows your body to balance blood sugar more effectively and to keep the brain sharp and focused while feeling less stressed. While we are at work we need to choose better lunches to keep the energy going rather than having that mid day lunch coma that most people experience. Our dinners too need to be more than just pizza delivery and kraft boxed foods. We need to take time to sit down with our families and enjoy true real food. This will bring not only good health and wellness to your family but it will also bring more happiness and less stress.

Emotional:
Almost always this becomes the by product of the first 3 choices we choose good or bad. More and more we are seeing a culture of people blinded like Amish horses with no peripheral vision from all of the drugs being prescribed to them. We are not fixing the true reasons why these depression and anxiety problems are becoming the downfall to our society. If we do not take responsibility for our own actions and start to choose better for ourselves and others we will continue this downward spiral of self loathing. If we only make small steps towards making our environment, physical activity, nutrition better we will see a big improvement on our emotional state of mind. We do hold the keys to our own success in life. It is up to us to find it and learn how to use it!

We need to remember that we cannot control all the factors of our lives. Inevitably we will all have to make decisions or deal with consequences we don't like. By taking the time to be more aware of our environments while being more physically active in them and making better nutritional choices we will be much more emotionally sound with less self induced stress. These are the best reasons for us to be selfish and make the best decisions possible. Remember, wise selfish not foolish selfish!
